Who has fresh, ripe, home-grown tomatoes this time of year? We do. I had originally started these plants in April in those little peat disks. I’d failed to move them into pots when it was the proper time, which stunted the growth of the plants. Then I moved them into plastic cups, where they again stayed too long, further stunting them. Mid summer, I finally got around to planting them into a large feeding trough, where they flourished. Early fall arrived, and cooler nights, but I didn’t have the heart to let the plants die, they were finally producing small fruit. We took the trough inside and put it in our large bay window where it’s really taken off. Now, at the end of October, we’re finally able to enjoy the bounty. It’s producing a much smaller yield than expected, probably due to my inattention, but it continues to produce new fruit.
