al-Deera

I have long been convinced deer are evil. This is the real reason I started hunting last year. Now I think they may have joined al-Qaida. At 1am Monday morning 10/9 I was hit by an IED, an Improvised Explosive Deer-vice. You may have heard about it, it was reported on Al Jedeera.

I did everything I could to avoid this thing, but it was very determined. It came out from the right side of the road running full bore. I’m not sure of distances, but when it charged out it was right in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and whipped my truck all the way over to the left gravel shoulder, but it still got me. I think it was equipped with the heat seeking attachment.

My girlfriend and I wound up driving past the deer later Monday morning about 10am and decided to stop and take a look, and parked with the deer just behind me. I checked my mirror to make sure there was no traffic and the blasted thing was moving it’s legs! It was 9 hours later! Jeeze, I couldn’t believe it was still alive! I got out and took a look. Sure enough, still breathing. It looked like the deer just took a head blow, one of it’s stubby antlers was broken off at the skull, there wasn’t much blood, and it didn’t look like there was much, if any, body damage. I thought I may as well get something out of this deal.

I rushed home and grabbed my cell phone and called the sheriff’s office to meet me out there with a car kill tag and headed back out to get the deer. The thing sat there for 9 hours and no one messed with it, it was gone when I got back 20 minutes later. It didn’t just get up and leave, there was another small fawn a couple miles down with it’s guts spilled all over the road and that was gone too. Usually around here deer sit for 3-5 days rotting and stinking, why these were cleaned up right away is beyond me. Now I feel jipped. At least I got the proof. And, technically, I finally got my first buck, I just used a really big projectile.

Not a whole lot of damage, but I’m pissed none-the-less.

Here’s a pic of the whole passenger side.
whole damage

The fender, i.e. the initial contact point. The headlight and blinker were smashed, plus a solid dent in the fender just above the headlight.

The lower rear of the fender got pushed back so I couldn’t open the passenger door. I had to pull that back forward so the door wouldn’t get mucked up.
fender 2

Not much to say here…. Just the hardest part to fix.
Looks like I knocked the poo right out of it.
quad door

And a scuff on the wheel.

The RPG.
